More than most people expect, and expedition ships are unusually clean about it. Meals, all your landings and Zodiac cruising, the lecture programme and access to the ship's doctor are standard, and some lines include a parka. There are no port charges, no taxes bolted on at the end, and no overweight luggage fees, which is a real difference from mainstream cruise lines.

What you should budget for on top:

  • Wifi, or faster wifi if a basic tier is included
  • Laundry onboard
  • Alcohol, unless your fare includes it
  • Tips, which some ships add automatically with an opt out
  • Activities like kayaking, camping and snowshoeing, usually pre-booked
  • Your own international flights and hotels either side

Inclusions do vary between operators and between fare types, and some lines are currently moving things in and out of the base fare. Read the specific trip's inclusions rather than trusting a general list, including this one. We'll pull them for whatever you're considering.
