Usually the same route and the same penguins as a classic Peninsula voyage. Operators invent itinerary names to stand out in a crowded market, and it used to be just classic, extended and Circle. A penguin safari is a classic. A March whale watching trip is a classic in late season, when there are more whales anyway. In Shackleton's Footsteps is a standard South Georgia route wearing a theme.
This isn't operators being deceptive. The naming is a marketing choice and the itineraries under the names are real trips. The problem is what it does to comparison. Someone weighing a penguin safari against a classic thinks they're choosing between two products when they're choosing between two names, often at different prices.
Some operators name things plainly. Oceanwide, Poseidon and Antarctica21 tend to tell you where the ship goes and for how long. Others use many names for near-identical trips, which makes searching harder for you and for us.
The fix is to ignore the name and read the route, the day count and the landing days. Ask us and we'll line them up side by side.
