Generally no. Most expedition ships are casual, and comfortable pants, sweaters and casual shirts cover lectures, meals and lounges. Luxury-leaning ships may run smart casual, and some voyages hold a captain's welcome or farewell, so one simple dressier outfit is enough if you enjoy dressing up. Check your ship's dress code rather than applying traditional ocean cruise rules.
The thing people underpack is shoes. Bring comfortable closed-toe shoes with non-slip soles, because you'll be on stairs and wet exterior decks, and you'll change into expedition boots several times a day so easy on and off matters. Open-backed slippers, loose sandals and flip flops may not meet the ship's safety guidance.
Also pack a swimsuit. It takes almost no space and covers the polar plunge, hot tub, sauna or pool depending on the vessel. Pack it even if you're undecided about the plunge, because that's a decision better made on the day.
